Afghanistan holds women’s taekwondo, table tennis competitions

Kabul, Afghanistan, March 20, 2013: Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) in Afghanistan reports on two sports events for female athletes, in taekwondo and table tennis. A women’s taekwondo competition started on Tuesday, March 19, at the National Olympic Committee Gymnasium in Kabul. An Afghanistan NOC spokesman told BNA that 30 athletes from clubs in Kabul city were taking part.

A women’s table tennis competition began on Monday in Mazar-e-Sharif. Shokreya Hekmat, who is responsible for women’s sport in the Afghanistan NOC, told BNA that 19 players from Kabul, Jawzjan, Samangan and Balkh provinces were competing in the two-day event.

She added that the top 10 players at the end of the competition would be chosen for the national women’s table tennis team.
