Kuwait: The Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee has announced details of the entries from the 45 National Olympic Committees for the 17th Asian Games from September 19 to October 4. As of August 26, there will be a total of 9,803 athletes, comprised of 6,003 male athletes and 3,800 female athletes. China is sending the biggest delegation with 899 athletes (470 male, 429 female), followed by host country Korea with 831 (454-377).
Japan will send 716 athletes (380-336), while DPR Korea has entered 150 athletes (70-80). Regarding the most popular sports, 42 of the 45 NOCs have entered athletics, followed by taekwondo with 37 and judo and shooting with 35.
The fewest number of NOC entries is modern pentathlon with seven, while baseball/softball has attracted a total of nine NOCs (eight entries for men's baseball and six for women's softball). Football will involve the highest number of athletes with 767 – 569 in the men's competition and 198 in the women's event, while modern pentathlon will feature only 52 athletes.
The figures, however, are subject to change depending on the eligibility of athletes under the Olympic Council of Asia's three-year residency rule.
