05 Feb 2018
Hangzhou, China, February 5, 2018: The Launch Ceremony for both the Official Website of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee (HAGOC) and the Global Call for Emblem Design Proposals took place in Hangzhou on January 29, 2018.

The leaders who attended the ceremony included: Qi Xiaohu, Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC, Member of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee; Chen Guomei, Deputy Mayor of Hangzhou and Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC; Lu Lin, Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC and Deputy Director of Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Sport; Bao Xuejun, Deputy Director of Zhejiang Provincial Education Department; Mao Genhong, Deputy Secretary General and Director of HAGOC’s Executive Office; Jin Chenglong, Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC and Director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Sports; and Dong Yue, President of Hangzhou Daily Press Group.

During the ceremony, the lettering of www.hangzhou2022.cn was ignited, signifying the launch of HAGOC’s official website. From now on, the public obtains an “electronic key” to access HAGOC on the internet. Using its official website as the main platform, HAGOC then launched its global call for emblem design proposals.

Qi Xiaohu, Chen Guomei, Lu Lin, Luo Xuejuan (Ambassador for Hangzhou's bidding for the Games and Olympic swimming champion), Kong Shengdong (national Ethical Role Model) and Wang Yang (amateur athlete representing the public) pressed their palms on the big screen.

This resulted in the outdoor screens at the city’s landmark sites simultaneously displaying the domain of the official website as well as the video entitled “Invitation from the West Lake: HAGOC’s Global Call for Emblem Design Proposals for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022” to mark the official start of the call.

*The Games’ emblem is an important visual element of Hangzhou 2022 and serves as the major carrier to showcase Hangzhou's visions of the Asian Games and Chinese culture.

*The key words of the emblem design are: green, smart, economical, ethical; Chinese grandeur, Southern China style, Hangzhou charm; innovation, development, prosperity, progress; participation, unity, sports, strength, Asia, happy gathering and festivity.

*The emblem should reflect not only the Olympic Spirit but also the culture and values of the host country and host city. The proposals should be inspiring, motivational, visually attractive, suitable for TV broadcast and applications in new technology.

*Technical and legal documents on design and submission can be downloaded from the official website.

*The global call runs from January 29 to March 31, 2018. Proposals can be submitted from March 21 to 31.

*HAGOC will set up a judging panel to evaluate all the proposals. Ten proposals will be shortlisted and RMB 10,000 will be awarded to each. For the final entry, RMB 120,000 will be awarded to the designer.

Over 200 people - including officials of Hangzhou and Zhejiang Provincial Departments, co-host cities outside Hangzhou, districts and counties (cities) and coaches, athletes, referees, delegations from universities and design institutions, volunteers, local citizens, HAGOC staff and the official website development team - attended the launch ceremony.
