Hong Kong, China: The pools and schedule for the International Rugby Board (IRB) Junior World Rugby Trophy 2014 were announced on Monday at the tournament venue, Hong Kong Football Club.

The future stars of world rugby from eight international unions - Canada, Georgia, Hong Kong, Japan, Namibia, Tonga, United States and Uruguay - will come together in Hong Kong from April 7-19, 2014 for the seventh edition of the under-20 tournament. It will be the first time it has been staged in Asa.

The two pools, with seedings in brackets, are:

Pool A: USA (1), Tonga (4), Georgia (5), Hong Kong (8)
Pool B: Canada (2), Japan (3), Uruguay (6), Namibia (7)

The winner of the tournament in Hong Kong will be promoted to the IRB Junior World Championship in 2015.

Japan qualified for the Junior World Trophy after an emphatic win at the regional (ARFU) Under 19s Championship in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei.

Although Hong Kong qualified automatically as hosts, they finished second in Asia behind Japan, ahead of South Korea in third place.

HKRFU Chief Executive Vern Reid said: “With the Rugby World Cup coming to Asia for the first time in 2019, the region is becoming a focal point for growth in the game.

"Hong Kong has always played a role in building the legacy of the game in the region and we are excited to add another chapter in our prestigious history.”
