CTOC Press Release: Nanjing 2014 YOG Virtual Torch Relay Arrival Celebration

11 Jul 2014
With 39 days to the opening ceremony of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games on August 16, the virtual torch arrived in Taipei on July 8th. The Chinese Taipei NOC held a Virtual Torch Relay Celebration at the National Sports Training Center in Kaohsiung. On behalf of the NOC, Ms. I-Ting Shen, Deputy Secretary-General of CTOC welcomed the arrival of the torch.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Taipei Young Ambassador, Emily A. Yeh, for the Nanjing 2014 YOG, guided the athletes to use the Nanjing 2014 Torch Relay application to “Cheer” for Team TPE, “Check in” as the torch arrived in Taipei, and “Pass and Receive Fire(Torch)” with each other. All the athletes were pumped for the young athletes who will be competing in Nanjing. The CTOC also awarded a couple Lele, the Nanjing 2014 YOG mascot, to the athletes and participants who answered YOG facts correctly.

Through successful promotion of the torch relay application by the CTOC, the Chinese Taipei YOG Team has received 1168 cheers and growing. Altogether, 48 athletes from Chinese Taipei will be participating in 16 sports at the Nanjing 2014 YOG as compared to 24 participated in the Singapore 2010 YOG. The doubled number of qualified athletes represents a big step up for the young generation of athletes in Chinese Taipei.

The CTOC has also been promoting the YOG DNA, such as “compete, learn, and share,” hoping to educate more people about the objectives of YOG and the importance of youth. Deputy Secretary-General Shen encouraged the YOG athletes to “train hard and look forward to the YOG experience because it will be fun and unforgettable.”
