FIVB World Cup to go ahead in Japan

Lausanne, Switzerland: The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has confirmed that the FIVB World Cup, the first qualifying event for the London 2012 Games, will take place in Japan from November 4 to December 4, 2011.

After a meeting with the Japanese Volleyball Association and Fuji Television at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne, the schedules and venues were confirmed, following an update on the status of Japan’s recovery from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The President of the FIVB is Wei Jizhong, OCA Honorary Life Vice President and former Chairman of the OCA Sports Committee.

*At its Council meeting held at the end of May in San José, USA, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided to modify the deadlines for bids for world championship events.

From now on, the affiliated federations and their candidate cities will have to tender their bids six years before the event, rather than the current four.
