Volleyball on the rise in Gulf region

Manama, Bahrain: The rise in participation and popularity of volleyball in the Gulf region was celebrated at a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Volleyball Organising Committee in Bahrain. The acting general secretary of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Abdulrahman Askar, commended the role of the GCC Volleyball Organising Committee in supporting and developing volleyball in the GCC region to reach international standards.

The praise came during his meeting with GCC Volleyball Organsing Committee general secretary Waleed Aman and members of the committee, who are in Bahrain to supervise the 22nd GCC Volleyball Championship at the Al Nasser club.

Askar welcomed the committee chairman and members, and lauded their efforts in organising various competitions which had played a major part in the emergence of several rising talents. Volleyball has become one of the most popular sports in the Gulf region through their initiatives, he added.

Waleed Aman conveyed the greetings of committee chairman Shaikh Yousef Al Abdulla Al Sabah to Askar, and expressed sincere appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain for the great hospitality and excellent organisation of the volleyball championship.
