A Qatar Olympic Committee delegation embarked on a follow-up visit to Tunisia to inspect the Tozeur Municipal Stadium which the State of Qatar refurbished in the frame of the excellent ties linking the brotherly countries. The two-member delegation -- Mr. Rashed Kahoura, Head of Services and Facilities Equipment Section, the project manager, and Mr. Tamer Hamad Sawai, Agricultural Engineer -- visited the stadium in the capital, which was inaugurated last October.

His Excellency Sheikh Saud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, QOC Secretary General, had attended the opening ceremony along with H.E the Tunisian Secretary of State, Bechir Al Wazir, H.E the Governor of Tozeur, Slaheddine Romdhane, and H.E the Ambassador of Qatar in Tunisia, Saad Nassir Al Humaidi.

The visit was to inspect the facility and to check that the artificial pitch, one of the best quality, had been properly installed, as well as the signs and seating.

The delegation also checked that the contractor had respected the conditions and technical specifications set by the Qatar Olympic Committee. They also inspected the track made of artificial grass, the first time this material has been used in Tunisia.

The stadium and its features were favorably welcomed by the Tunisians on official and popular levels. The seats had also been also fixed in the stands. The premises of the local club "La Palme de Tozeur" had also been rehabilitated.

The Qatari delegation praised the efforts of H.E the Qatar Ambassador to Tunisia in following up and facilitating the works in the project. They had a meeting with H.E in the presence of the managers of the companies having conducted the different works for the artificial pitch and the indication signs.

The Qatar Olympic Committee had previously assumed the charge of building the municipal stadium in the town of Sikhneen in Palestine for the Arabs of 1948 which was given the name of "Doha Stadium", as well as building the Sports Village in the town of Al Ansar in South Lebanon.
