Manama, Bahrain: The focus of the first Bahrain Women’s Games has switched from basketball to table tennis as the eight-sport festival continues. There are 15 players in the table tennis championship, taking place at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association premises in Riffa, and featuring competitions in singles and doubles. The 15 players in singles were drawn into three groups of five, with the top two qualifying for the second round.

Maryam Al Qasmi, the Bahrain national team skipper and former GCC champion, dominated all her matches in Group A with a maximum eight points from four straight wins. Nadeen Adel also qualified after coming second with seven points.

The other qualifiers were Kaltham Elyasi (8 points) and Noor Al Haiki (7) from Group B and Fatma Al Haiki (8) and Fatma Al Jazzaf (7) from Group C.

The first Bahrain Women's Games is being organised by the Supreme Council for Women in cooperation with the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

The volleyball, bowling and basketball championships have already taken place, with five-a-side futsal, shooting, athletics and disabled sport still to come.

The annual Bahrain Women's Day is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of Bahraini women in the sporting arena, and is being held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad, and Supreme Council for Women President.
