Syrian cycling plans overseas training camps

Damascus, Syria, January 25, 2016: The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) is celebrating the participation of Syria’s national cycling team in the Asian Cycling Championships at Oshima Island, Japan.

SANA reports that Mohammad al-Atrash finished sixth in the 22.5 km individual time trial.

In a statement to SANA, the Chairman of the National Union of Cycling, Mohammad Khodr, said the result achieved by al-Atrash was very important, being the first of its kind in the history of the Syrian cycling sport.

Khodr added that he met with a number of Asian Cycling Confederation officials and representatives of many countries and discussed the issue of securing overseas training camps for the Syrian team, pointing out that some of those expressed their initial approval to set up such camps.

Athletes from 41 countries are participating in the Championships.
