Tokyo 2020 leaders thank PM Abe

Tokyo, Japan: A distinguished delegation from the Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee on Tuesday visited Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the Bid’s Supreme Advisor, to express appreciation for the government’s unequivocal support in their successful bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The announcement of the successful bid came at the IOC Session on September 7 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Prime Minister Abe spoke forcefully about the capacity of sport to bring people together and his government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable Games in 2020.

Tokyo 2020’s delegation was led by Tsunekazu Takeda, IOC Member and President of the Japanese Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020; Masato Mizuno, Tokyo 2020 CEO; Yuki Ota, double Olympic silver medallist in fencing; and Mami Sato, three-time long jump Paralympian.
