Bahrain steps up preparations for 3rd GCC Women's Games

Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain has stepped up its preparations to host the 3rd Gulf Cooperation Council Women’s Sports Games, scheduled to take place from March 3 to 13. Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Women member and head of the Women’s Sports Committee of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, chaired the first preparatory meeting as a build-up to Bahrain embracing the third edition of this regional event.

Shaikha Hayat welcomed the committee members and lauded the cooperation of the national sports associations taking part in the 10-day Games, and their tremendous efforts to ensure this event becomes a great success. Representatives of nine sports associations attended the meeting: football, volleyball, martial arts, shooting, basketball, disabled sport, table tennis, athletics and bowling.

Shaikha Hayat was briefed by representatives of the national sports associations on all arrangements made by the organising committee related to the nine sports and the sports programme schedule. The organisers also discussed the venues, tournament logo, mascot, medal design and certificates to be presented to the delegations taking part.

The meeting was also attended by BOC sports affairs chief executive Noaman Al Hassan, International Affairs executive coordinator Mohammed Al Zayed, working committee heads – Fajer Jassim (ceremonies committee), Hamad Al Baker (housing and hospitality committee) and Hamad Buhiji (finance committee) - as well as women’s sports committee members Dr Aisha Al Amer and Dr Maryam Mirza.
