IOC Evaluation Commission arrives in Tokyo
01 Mar 2013
Tokyo, Japan: Ready to demonstrate how people would "Discover Tomorrow" if the world’s most forward-thinking city hosts the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a top-level Tokyo 2020 delegation rolled out the red carpet for the International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission on Friday. The Commission, led by IOC Vice President and Committee Chair Sir Craig Reedie, arrived at Narita International Airport and will visit Tokyo for four days of intensive presentations and site visits during which Tokyo will prove its readiness and commitment to hosting the Games in 2020.
Tsunekazu Takeda, IOC Member and President of both the Japanese Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020, said: “It is a tremendous honour to welcome the IOC Evaluation Commission Chair and his colleagues to Tokyo.
"For the next week we will go all out to demonstrate our winning formula for hosting the Games in 2020. We are fully prepared for this moment and now look forward to showing our guests everything that the amazing city of Tokyo has to offer.”
IOC Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli, arriving on a different flight, was welcomed separately by President Takeda. Tokyo Governor Naoki Inose greeted the IOC delegation upon their arrival at the official hotel. Later this month the Evaluation Commission will visit Madrid and Istanbul, the two other Candidate Cities vying to host the 2020 Games. The decision will be made by the IOC in September in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
