Tehran, Iran: The Asian branch of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) is sad to report on the demise of a well-known coach and official, Hossein Torkaman of Iran. Mr Torkaman, who was a member of the WAKO Asia Technical Committee and head coach of WAKO Iran, passed away on March 1 after a short illness. He was 54.

Hossein Torkaman was granted by the WAKO (IF) board the WAKO international 7th Degree Black Belt in October 2012 by recommendation of Nasser Nassiri, President of WAKO Asia. He also played a leading role in the development of kickboxing in Asia, particularly in West Asia, where he occupied the position of chairman of the referees committee since 2006.

Hossein Torkaman held various positions in WAKO, WAKO Asia and WAKO Iran during his 18 years with the organisation and attended many events in Iran and Syria, as well as Moscow in 2000, Serbia 2001, Italy 2002, Kiev and Paris 2003, Hungary 2005, Belgrade 2007, Macau Asian Indoor Games 2007, Bangkok Asian Martial Arts Games 2009 and Macedonia 2011.

Hossein’s last major task, despite fighting his illness, was to coordinate the WAKO Iran team training camp for the 2012 WAKO Asian Championships in Pune, India. Nasser Nassiri, President of the WAKO Asian Kickboxing Federation and President of WAKO Iran, declared: “Hossein was my friend, my partner in WAKO Iran for more than 18 years.

"Even though he was acting general secretary of WAKO Iran, Hossein’s main job was head of coach of WAKO Iran. He was in charge of WAKO Iran’s national team coaches for the past 15 years in both domestic and overseas competitions." Nassiri added:  “Hossein left us with great memories. We will not forget him and he will always stay in our hearts. We pray for him and send our condolences to his family.”
