13 Jun 2014
Tokyo, Japan: International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Friday to discuss preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. “The Prime Minister confirmed the absolute commitment of the national Government to ensuring a successful Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and underlined the support of the Japanese people,” said President Bach, who met later in the day with Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe.

Tokyo was elected as the host city of the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in 2020 during the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires in September 2013. Tokyo, which also bid for the 2016 Olympic Games, previously hosted the Games in 1964.
