Bahrain NOC highlights Shaikha Hayat’s support as key to women’s tournament success

Manama, Bahrain, February 23, 2018: Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Bahrain Olympic Committee member and Women’s Sport Committee Chairwoman, has been congratulated on the success of the Bahrain team at the 4th Arab Women's Sports Tournament held in Sharjah, UAE. The Bahraini athletes excelled in the 10-day, 16-nation tournament and came out on top with 28 medals, comprised of 12 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze.

During a special welcome ceremony hosted by the BOC, General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar, Board member Ali Isaaqi and BOC Executive Directors congratulated Shaikha Hayat on this extraordinary success. Askar described the outcome as an unprecedented achievement for Bahraini women, underlining the tremendous efforts of Shaikha Hayat and all delegation members to prepare the teams for the challenging regional competition.

“We are all grateful and proud of the efforts of Shaikha Hayat and her support for women’s sports in Bahrain. This played a key part in the victory in the Sharjah tournament,” said Askar. “Shaikha Hayat’s contributions to Bahrain finishing first overall proves her vast experience as a former player and administrator, and is a major boost to our women’s sports. 

“We are so proud to have someone like Shaikha Hayat around. She he is truly an idol for so many Bahraini players and officials.”
