Macau NOC going to Goa for Portuguese-speaking NOC games

Macau, China: The government of the Macau Special Administrative Region held a flag handover ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, for the delegation competing in the Lusophony Games in Goa, India, this month.Macau will be sending a team of 153 athletes and officials to the third edition of the international multi-sport event for Portuguese-speaking National Olympic Committees, which include Brazil and also Timor-Leste. 

The 3rd Lusophony Games will run from January 18-29 and Macau’s athletes will compete in nine sports: athletics, basketball, football, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball and wushu.

Macau hosted the first Lusophony Games in 2006 before Lisbon, Portugal, held the second edition in 2009, when Macau won its only gold medal to date in the competition.

The VIP guests at the send-off ceremony included Charles Lo, President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, Chairman of the OCA Media Committee and a member of the OCA Executive Board.
