London, England: Iran leapt up the medals rankings to 12th place on Tuesday by winning two gold medals in wrestling and weightlifting and two silvers. With four golds in total, three silver and one bronze, the Iranians now have eight medals in total with five days of competition remaining before the August 12 closing ceremony. On the last day of weightlifting, super heavyweight Behdad Salimikordasiabi added the Olympic crown to his world and Asian titles as he won the men's +105kg.

The 22-year-old Iranian achieved a total of 455kg and Iran made it a 1-2 finish with silver for Sajjad Anoushiravani (449kg). In another arena at the ExCeL Centre in London Docklands, Iran won their third Greco-Roman wrestling gold in as many days when Ghasem Rezaei, 22, beat Russia's Rustam Totrov in the 96kg final. Over at the Olympic Stadium, Iran won their first medal in track and field - a silver in the men’s discus for Ehsan Hadadi (68.18 metres), who was beaten at the death by Germany's Robert Harting (68.27).

Elsewhere on Tuesday, China added three more gold medals to their impressive tally through Deng Linlin (gymnastics, women’s balance beam), Feng Zhe (men’s parallel bars) and the women’s table tennis team of Li Xiaoxia and Ding Ning in singles and Guo Yue and Li in doubles; China beat Japan 3-0 in the final.

In the same competition, Singapore won their second bronze of London 2012 by beating Korea 3-0 in the play-off for third place. Singapore’s medallists were Feng Tianwei and Li Jiawei (singles) and Wang Yuegu and Li in doubles. It was a second bronze of the Games for Feng, who finished third in the women’s singles. Korea won their 12th gold of the Games through Kim Hyeon Woo in the men’s Greco-Roman wrestling 66kg category, beating Hungary's Tamas Lorincz in the final.

At the Olympic Stadium, Qatar’s big high-jump hope, 21-year-old university student Mutaz Essa Barshim, grabbed a bronze medal with two other competitors after they finished joint third behind champion Ivan Ukhov of Russia (2.38 metres) and American Erik Kynard (2.33 metres).

Great Britain's Robbie Grabarz picked up a bronze alongside Canadian Derek Drouin and the young Qatari, who had exactly the same record (2.29 metres) to share third place. It was Qatar’s second bronze of London 2012. After Day 11, China still lead with 34 gold medals and 73 in total, followed by USA with 30 gold and 70 in total and Great Britain (22 gold, 48 total).
