Another major highlight came on the sidelines of the European Olympic Committees' General Assembly on November 22-23 in Rome, where the OCA and ANOC President was introduced to Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church.

The meeting took place on Saturday from 11.30am in the Sala Clementina (Clementina Hall) and lasted for 30 minutes.

Pope Francis saluted the power of sport but also warned against excess when he met leaders of the Olympic Movement at the Vatican, according to Around The Rings.

In other news, the President of the EOC, Patrick Hickey, was re-elected until 2017.
