PyeongChang 2018 welcomes Hong Kong, China

PyeongChang, Korea, February 8, 2018: The Team Welcome Ceremony of the Hong Kong, China delegation to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games was held at 10am Thursday in PyeongChang Olympic Village Plaza. 

Mr Ryu Seung-min, Village Mayor and IOC Member, officiated the ceremony in the presence of Mr Timothy Fok, IOC Hon. Member and President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Mr Tony Yue Kwok Leung, Chef de Mission, Mr Wong Po Kee, Acting Secretary General of the SF&OC, and Mr Edmond Yue, team manager of alpine skiing.

The bauhinia flag was raised with the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China. Subsequently, Mayor Ryu and CDM Yue exchanged souvenirs representing the friendship between PyeongChang and Hong Kong. The ceremony ended with Korean cultural music and K-Pop dance in a carnival atmosphere.

The Opening Ceremony of the OWG will be held on February 9 at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium. Miss Arabella Caroline Ng Yi-li, the lone athlete representing Hong Kong in alpine skiing, was assigned flag bearer of the delegation for the athletes’ parade.

The order of the march-in is according to the Korean alphabet, and Hong Kong, China is the last delegation in the parade prior to the host country, Korea. Arabella will compete in the Ladies’ Giant Slalom and Slalom on February 12 and 14, respectively.
