Vietnam hosts gymnastics age group camp

20 May 2013
Hanoi, Vietnam: Vietnam hosted the 21st International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) coach education event of 2013 from May 8-12 at the very well equipped National Training Centre in Hanoi. A total of 28 coaches from every part of the country attended. In addition, an equal number of demonstrator gymnasts of all levels were present throughout the camp bringing the total number of participants to nearly 60.

The quality of the Vietnamese gymnasts and their potential was very high. It bodes well for a very successful gymnastics future for Vietnam. The FIG Age Group Programme is expected to help in that process.

The five-day camp focused primarily on practical work in the gymnasium with coaches and their gymnasts on the various technical and physical tests, the compulsory exercises and the modified optional rules. Some theory background was provided to promote the FIG philosophy of protecting gymnasts during the growth years.

Thanks go to Ms Nguyen Kim Lan, Vice President of the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation, and her staff of workers and volunteers for making this Age Group Camp such a huge success. This Age Group Camp will be followed immediately by a similar one in the Philippines and that will conclude the first round of such camps. Additional camps and follow-up and monitoring programmes are in the planning stages.
