Nanjing, China: 17-year-old Paulinelouise Lopez from the Philippines proudly took home the gold medal in girls 55 kg category in Taekwondo final which was played yesterday after beating Fariza Aldangorova from Kazakhstan by 4-2. As the tournament neared towards the finals, everyone got very excited as both the finalists were as strong and competitive.

Both of them reached the finals after facing challenging opponents in the semi-finals, Philippines winning against Jordan by just 1 point while Kazakhstan won against Uzbekistan by 2 points. It was indeed the deciding match to pick the best of the best. Lopez played hard throughout the entire tournament starting right from the start and boosted her performance from the semi finals.

At the finals, she made an impressive start with a 3-0 lead. But in the second round, Aldangorova fought back and put up a tough fight and scored 2 points and did not let Lopez hit her at all. With a difference of just 1 point, the third round started off leaving the audience on their toe as it was anybody's game now Lopez kept her composure and did not let slip of her one point lead in the third round not letting Lopez even score a point.

A crowd of Filipinos, who were cheering for her throughout the match, applauded even louder as Lopez was announced as the winner. Paulinelouise Lopez is the second girl gold medalist from Philippines at the 2nd Asian Youth Games after Clare Legaspi who won gold in Golf. “We are very happy and proud of them as they have not only brought gold medals for Philippines but also shown the potential of youth and proven that sports is indeed better than those computer games,” concluded Mr. Stephen Chu Hontiveros, Secretary General of Philippines Olympic Committee.
