Olympic Solidarity focuses on 2013-2016 plan

Sydney, Australia: The first Olympic Solidarity Commission meeting of the year took place on Tuesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney, Australia, involving the five Continental Associations as well as Olympic Solidarity and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). The Chairman of the IOC’s OS Commission, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to Sydney and thanked the Australian National Olympic Committee for the excellent preparations.
He also sent his thanks to the IOC President, Jacques Rogge, for his continuous support for OS. John Coates, AOC President, also welcomed everyone to Australia and extended his gratitude and appreciation to the OS/IOC for their support. Olympic Solidarity gave a thorough presentation on the 2013-2016 Quadrennial plan, general strategy, programmes and internal organisation.
The objectives of the 2013-2016 quadrennial are:
1. Increase assistance to athletes through scholarship programmes
2. Reinforce NOC structures and global management capacities
3. Continue to support coach education and promote the Olympic values
4. Strengthen the communication and coordination between IOC/OS/ANOC
The four areas of activity for 2013-2016 are:
1. World Programmes
2. Continental Programmes
3. Olympic Games Subsidies
4. Complementary Programmes
Olympic Solidarity also gave presentations on Athletes, Coaches and NOC Management Programmes. The Oceania National Olympic Committees, Olympic Council of Asia, European Olympic Committees and the Association of NOCs of Africa all signed an agreement with Olympic Solidarity regarding the Quadrennial plan 2013-2016.
Maj Gen Charouk Arirachakaran, OCA VP, signed on behalf of OCA, while Sheikh Ahmad signed the agreement in his capacity as OS Commission Chairman. The next meeting of the OS Commission will be on December 2, 2013 in Lausanne.
