Hong Kong NOC introduces new format for Olympism Camp

24 Jul 2017
Hong Kong, China, July 24, 2017: Jointly organised by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited, the Closing Ceremony of the 2017 Olympism Camp was held on Friday, July 21 at the Tai Tam Scout Centre.

Officiating guests included Hong Kong NOC President Mr Timothy Fok, Mr Yeung Tak-keung, Commissioner for Sports at the Home Affairs Bureau, Mrs Jenny Fung Ma Kit-han, Director of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, and Prof. Frank Fu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy.

A new format was launched for the three-day residential 2017 Olympism Camp. Apart from the young athletes from seven elite sports, student athletes who participated in the Olympism Education Programme and Sports Legacy Scheme also joined this camp.

The new arrangement offered a valuable opportunity for the student athletes to meet and learn from the elite athletes, whilst elite athletes were also given an opportunity to act as role models and ambassadors to inspire the student athletes through demonstrating their devotion towards sport and sharing of their experiences.

The theme of the 2017 Olympism Camp, “Olympic Journey”, offered a mock experience of the whole Olympic Games and delivered the three Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect through various interactive games, team activities, sharing sessions, anti-doping and media interview workshops.

Mr Fok, who is also an OCA Vice President, wished that all the participating athletes could demonstrate the three Olympic Values during their daily training and in competitions and to promote sports to the general public and motivate others to participate in sport.
