Cultural performance at the Team Welcome Ceremony.
Welcome cool in the Nanjing summer

14 Aug 2013
Nanjing, China: Organisers of the 2nd Asian Youth Games have made sure the young athletes will not suffer under a blazing summer sun during the Team Welcome Ceremony at the Athletes' Village - by
holding the ceremony indoors. DPR Korea, Iran and Mongolia were the latest teams to be welcomed into the Athletes' Village at a joint ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, inside the air-conditioned lecture hall of the Nanjing University of Technology campus.

After a short cultural performance, the athletes and team officials were welcomed by Li Shu, Deputy Secretary General of organizing committee NAYGOC. This was followed by an exchange of gifts and photo session, after which the delegations were able to board the buses parked outside and head back to the halls of residence.

The reception area of the Athletes' Village was as busy as a Chinese railway station just before the Lunar New Year on Wednesday, two days before the opening ceremony of the 16-sport, 122-event AYG for young athletes aged between 14 and 17. Over 600 athletes had checked in by Wednesday lunchtime.
