GCC Women’s Games hosts sweep bowling singles

Manama, Bahrain: GCC Women's Games hosts Bahrain took all three podium places in the bowling tournament singles event at Ozone Entertainment Centre at Sitra Mall on Sunday. Former Arab champion Noora Sultan put on a solid performance to clinch the title with 1,221 points, finishing ahead of Yasmine Akeel (1,066). Fatma Janahi (1,049) rounded off the top three.

Sixteen players from four GCC countries - Kuwait, UAE, Oman and Bahrain - each played six games to determine the overall champion. Sunday’s programme also featured three more sports competitions, as Bahrain took seven medals, including two gold, on the first day of the athletics for the disabled.

The two gold medals were won by Latifa Al Shamri in the javelin (F37, 600 grams) and Fatma Safar in the discus (F35-54 category). In the other discus event (F55), Omani Rayan bint Khalid bagged the gold medal. UAE dominated the remaining four competitions as Mahra Al Kaabi (17.44 sec) won the 100 metres and Aisha Al Khaldi (F32-33), Thuraya Al Za'abi (F34) and Seham Al Rashidi (F56-57-58) won their respective shot put events.

Bahrain added three more gold on the second day of the taekwondo through Kaltham Jassim, Ola Al Dossary and Aisha Abdulla in the 57kg, 67kg and 74kg events, respectively. The under-47kg category was won by Qatari Kaltham Al Mutawa. Basketball: Qatar 66 Bahrain 30 (Qatar retain title).
