Cambodia NOC joins New Year revellers

02 Jan 2018
Siem Reap, Cambodia, January 2, 2018: Cambodia NOC Secretary General Vath Chamroeun was among 800 New Year’s Eve revellers taking part in the Angkor City Night Music Run for charity on Sunday night. The 3km course went through midtown Siem Reap and around the river side and provided the runners - and thousands of onlookers - with music corners, party zones, selfie stations and a memorable countdown to 2018 ending in sparkling fireworks.

NOCC Secretary General Vath commented: “For everyone it was charity at heart, fun all around and memories of an event they can carry with them forever." Like the inaugural night run on November 5, there were no prizes to be won but, in the true spirit of the event, the participants were more than happy to receive a participation medal as a proud reward.

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Siem Reap Authority, Cambodia Events and Cambodia NOC, along with several sponsors and partners, the event served the twin objectives of raising funds for local children's hospitals, including Kantha Bopha, and promoting sports tourism.

Vath added: “Pub Street in Siem Reap has had a culture of its own for decades - and there is no better place to hold an entertaining and adventurous initiative, particularly for tourists, who fill the place day in, day out.”

A similar run is to be held on January 28. The Cambodia Marathon Committee will study the feasibility of holding such events in other major cities like Phnom Penh, Battambang, Kampot and Sihanoukville.
