China claims fourth gold in Girls' U18 Volleyball Worlds

Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, August 4, 2013: China captured their fourth gold medal at the FIVB Girls' U18 World Championship with a straight-sets win over USA (25-16, 25-21, 25-23) in a 68-minute final on Sunday.

It was a record fourth gold medal for China in their ninth participation at this age category, one more title than Brazil has won, and added to their previous wins in 2001, 2003 and 2007.

China’s Yuan Xinyue scored 16 points as her team’s best scorer, followed by Wang Yunlu with 14.

Japan finished fifth following a five-setter against Serbia.

After the final, the Thai Minister of Sport, Mr Somporn Chaibabangyang, along with the FIVB Control Committee headed by Mr Theofanis Tsiokris, honoured the best players with their trophies then the medallists China, USA and Brazil.
