British Ambassador welcomes Oman’s Olympic football hopefuls

Muscat, Oman: The British Ambassador to Oman, Jamie Bowden, welcomed Oman’s national Olympic football team to the British Visa Application Centre in Muscat ahead of their qualifying playoff against Senegal in Coventry, England, on April 23. The winning team will take the final spot in the men's Olympic Football Tournament in London 2012, reports the Times of Oman.

The ambassador congratulated the Omani youngsters for winning the three-team Asian qualifying tournament in Vietnam and wished them the best of luck for their crucial game against Senegal.

He also referred to Oman’s connection to British football and praised the remarkable performances of goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi in the English Premier League, and spoke of the recent visit of Ali Al Habsi’s team, Wigan Athletic, to Oman. Saif Al Jabri of the Omani Football Association thanked the ambassador for welcoming the Olympic football team at the Visa Application Centre and for his kind words to the team.
