OCA gears up for 17th Asian Games in 2014

28 Oct 2013
Incheon, Korea: With less than a year to go until the opening ceremony of the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC) will host the 7th OCA Coordination Committee meeting this week.

A series of working group meetings on topics such as accommodation, public relations and the torch relay will kick off the activities on Tuesday before the members of the OCA Coordination Committee and OCA staff conduct a site tour of seven new venues on Wednesday.

The CC meeting itself will begin at 10am Thursday and is expected to last around two and a half hours.

In the afternoon the delegates will visit Sunhak Stadium, venue for hockey and boxing, and the Munhak Park Taehwan Swimming Stadium, named after Korea's Olympic swimming hero and Asian Games Goodwill Ambassador Park Taehwan.

The 17th Asian Games will run from September 19 to October 4, 2014, and feature 36 sports, including the 28 sports on the Olympic Games programme for Rio 2016 plus eight non-Olympic sports which reflect the diverse sporting culture of Asia such as kabaddi and sepaktakraw.

Organisers are expecting Asia's 45 National Olympic Committees to participate with a total of 13,000 athletes and team officials and 7,000 media.
