OCA President speaks of Asian Games 'magic' to broadcasters

Incheon, Korea: The OCA President, HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, sent a welcome message to the organisers and participants of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games World Broadcasters Meeting which opened today at the Incheon Sheraton Hotel.

More than 270 guests from Asia's most influential broadcasters, marketing agents, IHB (Incheon Asian Games Host Broadcasting Management) and IAGOC (Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee), as well as representatives from the OCA, attended the meeting.

In his message, Sheikh Ahmad expressed his gratitude to the Asian NOCs and broadcasters for building a successful partnership to develop and promote sport throughout the continent.

He said: “We are very proud of our Asian Games, which have enjoyed an unbroken sequence since the inaugural edition in 1951 thanks to the unity and solidarity of the 45 Asian NOCs. With 437 events in 36 sports, the Asian Games not only showcase the continent’s top athletes but also reflect the diversity of the sports culture in Asia.

“In partnership with our broadcasters we can project the magic of the Asian Games to all countries and regions in the continent and around the world, as well as highlight the diversity and the harmony of the people of Asia through sport and culture.”

The IHB, which comprises KBS and MBC, promised to deliver a high quality product and build on the experience of being the host broadcaster for the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul and the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. The host broadcaster has already assembled 47 production teams to cover the Asian Games.

The 17th Asian Games will take place over 16 days in Incheon, Korea, from September 19 to October 4, 2014.There will be approximately 20,000 participants from the 45 NOCs, including 13,000 athletes and officials and 7,000 media. The slogan is “Diversity Shines Here”.
