Kazakhstan weightlifter disqualified from London 2012

22 Nov 2016
Lausanne, Switzerland, November 21, 2016: The IOC announced on Monday that 12 athletes have been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012. They include Almas Uteshov, 28, of Kazakhstan, who finished seventh in the men’s 94kg weightlifting event.

Re-analysis of Uteshov’s samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and stanozolol. He has been ordered to return the Olympic diploma he received for his seventh-place finish. The other 11 athletes named are from the Russian Federation (4), Ukraine (2), Moldova (2), Armenia (1), Georgia (1) and Belarus (1).

The additional analyses on samples collected during the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012 were performed with improved analytical methods in order to possibly detect prohibited substances that could not be identified by the analysis performed at the time.
