Afghanistan NOC celebrates new sports arena in Kabul

Officials from Afghanistan's National Olympic Committee, led by Muhammad Zahir Aghbar, inaugurated a new 1,750-square metre sports ground in the Panjsad Family area of Kabul city on Monday, July 5. The cost of construction was US$27,000, according to the website Afghanistan Online www.afghan-web.com.

Afghan actress Leena Alam was present at the ceremony, and Afghan athletes played football and held taekwondo matches to celebrate the event.

In other sports news from Afghanistan, 16 Afghans took part in the 2010 Asian Open Muay Thai Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the last week of June. Afghanistan’s representatives in the martial art won one gold medal and eight bronze in the championship, hosted by the Uzbekistan Muay Thai Federation.
