CTOC-COC hold annual cross-strait forum

09 Jan 2017
Taipei, January 9, 2017: At the invitation of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOC), Mr Yang Shu’an, Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), led a delegation to Taipei to attend the 20th annual Cross-Strait NOCs Forum. The forum set the roadmap for the NOC exchange programmes for 2017.

There will be six exchange visits per side, covering Sport and Legal Affairs, Youth and Sport, Sports Science Study, Sports Medicine and Injury Prevention, Gold Medal Coaches Seminar, Sports Industry, Sport for All, Mega Games Experts, Sport Venue Operation and Sports Journalist and Sports Events spectrums.

Since 1997, CTOC and COC have gradually expanded the exchange programmes from three to six visits each side per year. And the cross-strait NOCs meetings initiated 19 years ago have produced good results and promoted friendship.

For example, after the Rio Olympic Games, COC sent gold medal athletes and coaches in Athletics-Race Walk, Cycling, Shooting, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Weightlifting to Taiwan to help CTOC promote both the training skills and competition techniques for local athletes and coaches. This cooperation contributed greatly to the strengthening of bilateral relationships between the two NOCs.

In addition, to deepen and widen the sports exchange of both NOCs, the Baseball and Taekwondo Associations of the Cross-Strait also signed an exchange and cooperation memorandum for strengthening further ties. The forum is held on an annual basis alternately in Taipei or Beijing in an effort to augment the scope and depth of the exchange programme.
