OCA Media Committee welcomes Fun Run + Learn concept

07 Feb 2012
Macau, China: The Chairman of the OCA Media Committee, Charles Lo, has welcomed the initiative to expand the Asian Games Fun Run concept to include an educational aspect for a 10-leg series in 2012. The OCA announced recently that the traditional Fun Run would be supplemented by a Fun Learn element and an Asian Games Youth Reporter project in events to promote the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, in 2014.

The Fun Learn will involve a quiz to test the knowledge of youngsters of the Asian Games, Olympic Movement and of sport in general, while the Youth Reporter project will target children aged under 16 with a talent for English-writing and with the ambition of working in the sports media.

“Like the athletes themselves, the Youth Reporter project will train them from a young age,” said Mr Lo, at the OCA Media Committee meeting in Macau on Tuesday. “We are starting something new and working together with the NOCs to provide this Fun Run and Learn concept to promote the Asian Games.

“It will involve some trial and error and we can improve things as we go along. The most important thing is starting this new format, so let us all work together and do our best to promote the Asian Games and the Olympic ideals among the youth of Asia.” The Fun Run + Learn will start at Mongolia on February 29 – the first of 10 NOC hosts in 2012.
