Qatar prepares to stage 2nd GCC Beach Games

Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain Olympic Committee sports advisor Abduljalil Asad chaired a meeting of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee of the GCC National Olympic Committees’ Presidents in Kuwait. Among the items on the agenda was Qatar’s preparations to host the second GCC Beach Games from October 20-26 and featuring six sports: football, handball, volleyball, swimming, rowing and sailing

Qatari representative Ishaq Al Hashmi said the organising committee would soon finalise the official logo, in addition to other tasks related to transportation, accommodation and stadiums.

He noted that the committee would present a full report to the 80th meeting of the GCC NOC Presidents’ Executive Office, due to be held in Kuwait in April 2014.

The committee decided to have a joint meeting with directors of the GCC delegations in Doha in September, and agreed to set up the next coordination and follow-up meeting in May.

Also present at the meeting were Coordination and Follow-up Committee members Adel Bin Nikhi of Kuwait, Bader Al Mansoor of Saudi Arabia, UAE’s Salem Juma and Wejdan Al Dahkoni and Saeed Al Harasi of Oman.

A consultative meeting of the GCC National Olympic Committees took place in Kuwait on Sunday, March 2.

The meeting, chaired by Kuwait Olympic Committee general secretary Obaid Al Enezi, was attended by general secretaries of the GCC NOCs - Mohammed Al Kamali (UAE), Mohammmed Al Meshel (Saudi Arabia), Taha Al Kishri (Oman), Mishal Al Khalifa (Qatar) and Abdulrahman Askar (Bahrain).
