Tsuguto Kitano: Japan’s winter sports promoter

08 Jan 2016
Tokyo, Japan, January 7, 2016: The International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) is mourning the loss of Tsuguto Kitano, long-time President of the Japanese Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Federation. He was 92 years old.

Kitano, for many years the head of an international building and hotel company (Kitano Group), significantly promoted bobsleigh and skeleton in Japan and Asia.

Furthermore, he promoted Nagano as a candidate city for hosting the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. After the IOC decided in favour of Nagano, Kitano also played an important role in the successful organisation of the 1998 Winter Games.

For the IBSF, Kitano - in preparation for the 1998 Olympic Winter Games - was Olympic Attaché in the Executive Board.

“With Tsuguto Kitano, sliding sport in Japan has lost a great promoter,” said IBSF President Ivo Ferriani. “We offer his family our sincere condolences and we will hold his memory in honour."

Kitano passed away on December 16 in Tokyo.
