Kyrgyzstan NOC President targets at least six medals at Incheon Asian Games

05 Apr 2014
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan: Kyrgyzstan NOC President Mr Murat Saralinov expects his athletes to at least equal their medal tally from the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games when the 17th Asian Games take place in Incheon, Korea, from September 19 to October 4, 2014. Talking to ocasia.org on the sidelines of the Incheon Asian Games Fun Run in Bishkek on Friday, Mr Murat said that Kyrgyzstan’s minimum target in Incheon this year is winning no fewer than six medals - their tally in Guangzhou four years ago.

“We won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals in Guangzhou in 2010, so this is our minimum target for the Incheon Asian Games,” said Mr Murat.

"In order to achieve this, Kyrgyzstan NOC started an elite athletes programme one year ago. We set up a sports programme including 25 Asian Games sports, and more than 600 athletes have participated in this programme.

"I think about 200 athletes will make their way to Incheon this summer. We have a new government in our country and we must demonstrate our capability to the new leadership. However, it is never easy to create such a sports training programme; sometimes government support arrives very late and Kyrgyzstan NOC ourselves must take the initiative and lead and guide our athletes.

“Thanks to our sponsors, who have been very supportive to us, our sports training programme has gone very smoothly.”
