Bahrain dominate athletics in GCC Women's Games

Manama, Bahrain: Host country Bahrain finished the athletics competition of the 3rd GCC Women's Games with a flourish on Saturday at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town. The Games organisers clinched seven medals on the third and concluding day, taking their tally to 23 medals in total - 11 gold, nine silver and three bronze - to emerge overall athletics champions.

The four gold medals on Saturday came from Jenzeb Shoumi (1500 metres in 4 minutes 19.11 seconds), Maryam Al Ansari (high jump, 1.70 metres), the 4 x 400m realy team of Hajer Saad, Marwa Salah, Fatma Amer and Fatin Abdulnabi and from Shitai Ashit (5000 metres in 16 minutes, 2.90 seconds).

The other events of the day were the 200m and javelin, won by Oman and Qatar. Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa witnessed the athletics competitions and honoured the winners.

Bahrain added two gold in the taekwondo through Dina Mahboob and Fajer Ali. The two other taekwondo gold medals were won by Oman's Yosra Bint Khamis and Kuwait's Abrar Mousa.

Volleyball - Bahrain 3 Kuwait 0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15), UAE 3 Oman 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-14). (UAE win gold with one round to go).

Basketball - Qatar 76 Oman 13, Kuwait 48 UAE 38.
