Philippines NOC names AIMAG CDM Monsour del Rosario to lead 2019 SEA Games team

03 Oct 2017
Manila, Philippines, October 3, 2017: The Philippine Olympic Committee has named the Chef de Mission and two Deputy Chef de Missions ahead of the country’s hosting of the 30th South East Asian (SEA) Games in 2019, following the Philippines’ successful campaign at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Congressman Monsour del Rosario, a taekwondo Olympian, has been rewarded for his inspirational leadership of the team in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, by being appointed CDM for the SEA Games. His Deputy CDM in Ashgabat, Raymund Lee I. Reyes (Karate), will also be Deputy CDM for the SEA Games, along with another Deputy CDM, Robert Bachmann (Squash).

The Philippines sent 116 athletes in 17 sports to Ashgabat and won 30 medals - two gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze – to rank 19th of 65 teams.

Del Rosario, who is also a famous movie actor, said the Philippines needed to prepare for the SEA Games in the same way they did for the AIMAG, with the government agency Philippine Sport Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and National Sports Associations working and cooperating together. The Philippines last hosted the SEA Games in 2005.
