Hong Kong NOC sends first alpine skier to Winter Olympics

Hong Kong, China, February 7, 2018: The Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Hong Kong, China delegation to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games was held at the President’s Office in Olympic House, Causeway Bay, on Wednesday.

The HKSAR (Special Administrative Region) flag was handed over to Chef de Mission Tony Yue and NOC Acting Secretary General Wong Po Kee by Mr Yeung Tak Keung, Commissioner for Sports of the Home Affairs Bureau; Mr Kim Weon-jin, Ambassador and Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong; Mr Ha Sung-ju, Deputy Consul-General; and Mr Yu Byung-chae, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre in Hong Kong. 

The ceremony noted the blessing and support from all guests and the Hong Kong people to the delegation. The 23rd Winter Olympics will be hosted in PyeongChang, Korea on February 9-25. Hong Kong has competed in the Winter Olympics since Salt Lake City 2002.

Hong Kong’s lone athlete in Korea will be 16-year-old Arabella Caroline Ng Yi-li, the first ever alpine skier representing Hong Kong. She will participate in the Ladies’ Slalom and Giant Slalom. Arabella completed her first senior-level FIS (International Ski Federation) race in November and her participation in Korea was confirmed by the FIS last month.
