Maldives NOC looks to ‘Healthy Champions’

21 Jul 2016
Male, Maldives, July 21, 2016: Maldives Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC), conducted a one-day seminar for professional level athletes. The athletes, known as “Healthy Champions”, will represent the MOC, HPA and ARC by fostering an environment that supports school children eating well and being physically active.

The aim of the seminar is to equip the athletes recognised as “Healthy Champions” with resources such as information and training to promote good nutrition and an active lifestyle to youth and families. The objective of the programme is to increase the capacity in schools to promote healthy eating and physical activity beyond health professionals.

During their visit to schools, Healthy Champions will encourage students to make lifestyle changes to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables, to make better beverage choices, to understand proper portion size, to increase minutes of daily physical activity, and recognise the need to balance calories consumed through food/drink versus calories burned through physical activity and growth.
