Nanjing AYG mascot Yuanyuan greets guests at the Hilton on Wednesday.
Mascot Yuanyuan welcomes seminar guests in Nanjing

16 Jan 2013
Nanjing, China: In exactly 212 days’ time – on August 16, 2013 – the OCA’s 2nd Asian Youth Games will open in Nanjing, China, with around 3,500 athletes and officials from 45 National Olympic Committees expected to take part. To mark the seven-month countdown, organising committee NAYGOC is holding the Chefs de Mission Seminar for team leaders from January 16-18 at the Nanjing Hilton Wanda Hotel.

Guests arriving in China's former capital city on Wednesday could not have failed to notice two things: the chilly winter temperature of 4 degrees C and the ubiquitous presence of the 2nd AYG mascot, Yuanyuan, a brightly-coloured cuddly monkey. With plenty of banners and bunting adorning the streets and buildings, the promotion augurs well for the Games, which open on August 16 and close on August 24.

On Thursday morning, the Chefs de Mission will enjoy a venue tour, taking in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre and the Athletes’ Village. Having hosted the 10th National Games of the People’s Republic of China in 2005, Nanjing – the capital of Jiangsu province – already boasts world-class sports venues for the 2nd AYG this August and the IOC’s 2nd Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

The opening ceremony of the seminar starts at 2pm Thursday, followed by the first session of presentations by the various departments of NAYGOC, including sports and venues, accreditation, accommodation, transport, medical services and doping control. The official welcome dinner will be held on Thursday evening, followed by the second session of department presentations on Friday morning. A press conference at noon on Friday will bring the seminar to a close.
