DPR Korea announces Athlete of the Year 2013

Pyongyang, DPR Korea: The Korean Central News Agency has announced the top 10 athletes and 10 best coaches of the DPRK for 2013.

Athletes of the Year:

    1. Om Yun Chol, male weightlifter of the Amnokgang Sports Team. Three gold medals in the 2013 Asian Cup and Interclub Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships, with new world record in the jerk event. Three golds in the 2013 Asian Weightlifting Championships. Two golds and one silver in the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.

    2. Kim Jong, female table tennis player of the April 25 Sports Team. Winner in the mixed doubles of the 52nd ITTF World Championships (individual events) and in the mixed doubles of the 6th East Asian Games.

    3. Ryo Un Hui, female weightlifter of the Kigwancha Sports Team. Three golds in the 2013 Asian Weightlifting Championships. Two silvers and one bronze in the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.

    4. Ryang Chun Hwa, female weightlifter of the April 25 Sports Team. Three golds in the 2013 Asian Weightlifting Championships. Two golds and one silver in the 2013 Asian Cup and Interclub Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships. Three silvers in the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.

    5. Kim Hyok Bong, male table tennis player of the April 25 Sports Team. Winner in the mixed doubles of the 52nd ITTF World Championships (individual events)  and in the mixed doubles of the 6th East Asian Games.

    6. Ho Un Pyol, female footballer of the April 25 Sports Team. Key player in making the DPRK team finish first at the 2013 East Asian Cup and the 6th East Asian Games.

    7. Kim Un Guk, male weightlifter of the April 25 Sports Team. Three golds in the 2013 Asian Weightlifting Championships. One gold and one silver in the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.

    8. Jo Pok Hyang, female weightlifter of the Kigwancha Sports Team. Two silvers and one bronze in the 2013 Asian Weightlifting Championships. Three golds in the 2013 Asian Cup and Interclub Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships. Three silvers in the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.

    9. Yun Won Chol, male Greco-Roman wrestler of the April 25 Sports Team. One gold in the World Wrestling Championships. One gold in the 28th World Military Wrestling Championships.

    10. Sol Kyong, female judoka of the sports team of Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering. One gold in the 2013 World Judo Championships.
