Winter Olympics is not the only game in town

Sharjah, UAE: The 22nd Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, is not the only international, multi-sports event going on at the moment promoting the Olympic spirit and ideals. In Sharjah, UAE, the 2nd Arab Women's Sports Tournament is taking place through to February 12 and involves athletes from 14 different Arab countries in seven sports at nine venues.

The event, which aims to boost the profile of women's sport in the Arab world as well as the participation of female athletes, is the largest of its kind in the region and brings together clubs from Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, Kuwait, Palestine and the UAE.

The seven sports, which can be watched free of charge for the public, are basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting and athletics.

Latest results include: Volleyball:

Al Ahli (Bahrain) 3 Yemen Club 0 (25-14, 25-4, 25-9).
Kuwait Girls Club 3 Al Wasl (UAE) 2 (19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, 15-12).
Jordan Olympic Club 3 Saham (Oman) 1 (25-20, 25-9, 24-26, 25-19).
