Malaysia NOC appoints four CdMs for 2014 games

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The 5th Olympic Council of Malaysia Executive Board meeting was held on November 12 at the OCM Boardroom, Wisma OCM.  The following matters were decided:

• Dato’ Ong Poh Eng, President of the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation and Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation, was appointed Malaysia’s Chef de Mission for the XX Commonwealth Games from July 23 to August 3, 2014, at Glasgow, Scotland.

• Ms. Wong Pei Tty, Olympian, was appointed Chef de Mission for the 2nd Youth Olympic Games from August 16-28, 2014, at Nanjing, China.

• Laksda Dato’ Pahlawan Danyal Balagobal Abdullah, Vice President of Olympic Council of Malaysia, was appointed Chef de Mission for the 17th Asian Games from September 19 to October 4, 2014, at Incheon, Korea.

• Dato’ Nashatar Singh, Olympiam, was appointed Chef de Mission for the 4th Asian Beach Games from November 14-23, 2014, at Phuket, Thailand.

• Approved 15 nominees to be inducted into the OCM Hall of Fame on November 21, 2013.

• Approved the Royal Selangor Club as the winner of the 2013 IOC Trophy – 150 years Pierre de Coubertin – Sport as a Shool of Life.

• Approved to implement a combined OCM/KBS marketing and sponsorship four-year programme for the 29th SEA Games 2017 starting from 2014.

• Approved the selection of 26 male athletes and 13 female athletes, plus 13 officials, for the Malaysian track & field team for the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar next month..

• Decided on the appeals of 17 NSAs for their teams participating in the 27th SEA Games 2013.

In other news from Malaysia:

• Around 30 Malaysian Olympians visited Wisma OCM and the Olympic Sports Hotel on November 16.  Dato' Nasharta Singh (athletics) urged his fellow Olympians to contribute to sports development by motivating and encouraging young athletes to excel in sports through talks and interacting with them on the field. He added that the Olympians could return to their schools and share their experiences with the young school athletes. Many other Olympians shared Dato’ Nasharta Singh’s views and agreed to prepare some programmes for such purposes. The Olympians were treated to lunch by Dato' Ow Soon Kooi, Chairman of the Olympic Sports Hotel and two-time Olympian in hockey (Montreal and Los Angeles).

* The Olympic Council of Malaysia expresses deep condolences to the family of the late Mr A Subramaniam, President of Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Athletics Association, who passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 16. He was 59 years old and left behind his wife and two children. Mr Subramaniam, a well-known social worker, was unanimously elected President of FTKLAA on November 27, 2012.
