OS/OCA regional forum opens in Bahrain

07 May 2014
Manama, Bahrain: The Olympic Solidarity/Olympic Council of Asia Regional Forum for West, Central and South Asian National Olympic Committees opened on Wednesday morning at the InterContinental Regency Hotel. A total of 54 officials from 26 NOCs are attending the two-day forum. Olympic Solidarity’s Asia Manager, Mr Olivier Niamkey, stressed the importance of the regional forum and said the annual event had become a tradition in the Olympic Movement at which delegates could discuss ideas and issues and share experiences.

“This year we will focus on good governance,” said Mr Niamkey. “I hope that each one of us here today will make some contribution to the Olympic Agenda 2020 of the IOC President.”

According to the IOC, the main objectives of the forum are to review good governance issues of the past; see how NOCs have implemented good governance at their respective levels; to analyse the best practices that have been developed; to assess the challenges that NOCs have encountered and to identify their needs, and to discuss what can be done or improved to further assist the NOCs.

Bahrain Olympic Committee Acting General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar and OCA Asian Games Department Director Haider Farman also gave speeches at the opening ceremony.
