Asian kickboxing championships held in India

Pune, India: The World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) Asian Championships 2012 were held from December 25-30 in Pune, India. The organisation of the championships - by Nasser Nassiri, WAKO Vice President and President of WAKO Asia, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Kickboxing Association led by its President, Mr. C A Tamboli - was deemed a great success.

The WAKO Asia General Assembly also took place, on December 26, at Hotel Orchid, the competition HQ. During the General Assembly the updated WAKO Asia Statutes as well as its Bylaws were adopted. The mandate of the board members was defined and the new members joined the board.

Mr. Nasser Nassiri (IRI) was appointed unanimously as the new President of WAKO Asian Kickboxing Federation and acting General Secretary. The General Assembly also appointed the members of the Board of Directors:

President, Nasser Nassiri (IRI); Vice President, Basel Al Sha'er (JOR); Vice President, Aleksandr Voinov (KGZ); Members, Kasim Al Wasity (IRQ), Kong Sun-teak (KOR) and Tran Thana Tung (VIE). Shortly after the General Assembly, the referee/judge seminar and team managers meeting were held.

Fifteen countries from all five Asian zones participated, with 170 competitors in three fighting styles: Point Fighting, Full Contact and Low-Kick.

Around 120 referees, judges and coaches and more than 50 volunteers took part in the Asian Championships.

The new scoring system for both Ring and Tatami competitions was used in Asia for the first time with success. Paolo Leoni from the Italian Kickboxing Federation travelled from Italy to assist WAKO Asia with the administration work related to the draw and scoring system.
