Cambodia NOC re-elects President Thong Khon

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, February 5, 2018: National Olympic Committee of Cambodia President Thong Khon was re-elected unopposed for the 2018-2022 mandate at the General Assembly held in the Morodok Techo National Sports Complex on February 1. Also at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Tea Banh, laid out the logistical roadmap towards the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia will be hosting for the time.

Thanking the delegates for the overwhelming support and faith in his leadership, the NOCC President and Minister of Tourism re-appointed Vath Chamroeun for the term as the Secretary General hailing the dynamic role the top administrator and former Wrestling Olympian had been playing in raising the country's sports profile over the last few years.

"Continuity is vital for building up the momentum as we stake our national pride on the smooth and successful conduct of the SEA Games and achieve the strategic goals we are setting out for in the next five years," the NOCC President reiterated.

Representatives from 39 affiliated federations took part in the electoral process to finalise the new executive committee. Following the resignations of Nuth Saan and Rat Sokhon, who served as members in the previous panel, their places were filled by Chea Bora and Meach Sophana.

The new executive board for the next term is: President: Thong Khon. First Vice President: Gen Sao Sokha. Second Vice President: Ouk Sothycheat. Third Vice President: Gordon Tang. Secretary General: Vath Chamroeun. Deputy Secretary General: Gen Tae Mean. Treasurer: Gen Ly Kosal. Executive Committee Members: Ms Mak Vansitha. Dr Sophean, Chea Bora and Meach Sophana,.

In other news, the Public Works and Transport Ministry has included a sky train link between Phnom Penh and the 2023 SEA Games main venue at Prek Phnov, enabling more spectators to travel the 18km from the city centre to the new stadium.
