Kuwait: The Arab Gymnastics Federation General Assembly has re-elected uncontested Saif Abu Edel of Kuwait as chairman for a third term lasting for four years, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported on Tuesday.
His deputies are Ali Al-Hatmi of Qatar, Iyad Nejef of Iraq, Mariam Samir of Egypt and Faisal Al-Zamani of Tunisia. Chosen as members of the federation executive bureau were Nasser Al-Subaiee of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad Makki of Lebanon, Mohammad Al-Wehaishi of Yemen and the Libyan Abdul Karim Salman.
In a statement, Abu Edel said the federation would increase Arab championships to sharpen athletes' skills and enable them to be more competitive at international tournaments.
Abu Edel affirmed that his re-selection to head the post signaled Kuwait's high status in sports at the regional and continental levels.
The assembly was held on the sidelines of the fifth Arab Men’s Gymnastics Championships, which kicked off at Al-Arabi Sporting Club on Monday. The three-day championship was held under the auspices of the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and Olympic Council of Asia, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.
